Werner Fritsch – Wikipedia

Werner Fritsch (* May 4, 1960 in Waldsassen, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria) is a German writer.

Werner Fritsch grew up in the northeastern Upper Palatinate on a Einsödbauernhof (Hendlmühle near Wondreb, Tirschenreuth district), far from the city life, which he later conquered himself all the more emphatically with his language works of art. At the Kepler Gymnasium in Weiden i. d. Off. Was one of his teachers the writer Franz Joachim Behnisch, who made him known to Herbert Achternbusch. Influenced by Achternbusch-he gave the 15-year-old the advice: Look at your province – Fritsch has constantly maintained a productive closeness to the local Upper Palatinate.

After high school and basic military service, he devoted himself to the action theater/performances until 1984 as an author, director and actor. His novel appeared in 1987 Cherubim , which was considered with great attention and prices (including Robert Walser Prize 1987). Since then, Fritsch has published numerous prose and plays, radio plays and screenplays.

In the 1998/99 season he was “theater poet” at the Nationaltheater Mannheim during the acting directorate Bruno Klimek’s “theater poet”, where two of his pieces – Cherubim (1998) and Quarry (2000, invited to the Mülheimer Theater Days ) – premiered.

In recent years, Werner Fritsch has also increasingly devoted himself to teaching, so he has been a visiting professor for drama/new media at the Leipzig Literature Institute for several semesters. Werner Fritsch lives in the Hendlmühle near Wondreb in the Tirschenreuth district and in Berlin. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany.
